This button stick was discovered in an area where the Irish Guards were to be found on 21 September, 1944, during Operation Market Garden.  The Regimental number lead to a search for the identity of the man to whom it belonged and it it believed the number corresponds to a J. KELLY.  From the sequence of Regtl. No.s it is quite probable that this man was previously with the 1st Battalion, having been part of the reinforcements to the 3rd Battalion, most probably serving with No. 4 Company.

Click here to view a photograph of a man identified only as J. Kelly. It is not possible to state whether or not he was the owner of the button stick. As a member of 1Bn it is not impossible that this man served with 3Bn in North West Europe.
